does anyone know of a good website with information on caring for this beetle (the grubs in particular)? one of the main things i am wondering about is how to get wood to rot, since i can't find wood that is already rotten and some information about judging what instar they are in......i saw a book about them online that looks pretty good, but i was hoping to find some websites

There are a few websites. I like this one the most for Dynastes sp.

I have had luck w/ tityus.
i keep mine in gallon pickle jars w/ 50/50 mixture of compost manure and top soil.

place male and female together for a couple days, they should breed
separate them
leave female alone for a month or so and wait
within a month or so u should have eggs
eggs take a month or so to hatch

if your going to keep grubs you must collect decaying wood and some leaves; the grubs do eat dried dog food as well
bake the wood and leaves at 250 for 3 hours to kill wire worms etc mix
Adults do well on apple slices soaked in diluted syrup
add couple hand fulls of wood as needed and dog food too its supposed to make for bigger beetles!!

i had to sift thru the soil to find the eggs and the grubs are tiny like pencil eraser-size it takes a year to transform into adults
get the rearing of dynastes granti book and u should be fine
Good Luck!
