What kind of beetle is this?

chinamark Jun 08, 2008 11:19 AM

Hello,

I wonder if anyone could help me identify this beetle. I live in China and it's the first time I've seen one like this so I'd be interested in any information.

Many thanks,
Mark

it's a longhorn beetle, family Cerambycidae. Don't know which species however.

I'm thinking the Asian longhorn beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis). I don't know much about them, but I saw a picture of them in my insect field guide. I guess they're an invasive species in the US and can be pretty detrimental to some tree species. Cool looking beetle though.
