WHAT KIND OF MILLIPEDE IS THIS?

me2 Jun 14, 2004 04:57 PM

At least I'm pretty sure it's a millipede....has the general shape of a millipede, has a lot of legs like one, etc.

However, unlike the typical millipede I'm used to seeing, this one is considerably larger (about 3" long), wider (maybe a half inch?) and has dark segmented "plates," similar to a rolly polly bug...and the outline of its plates as well as its legs were a bright yellow when I first saw it, but saw one a month or so later and they were more of a dark orange...

Thx!

Sounds like a member of the genus Sigmoria. Where do you live? There are very similar species here in North Carolina.
