millipede species in uk - help!

woodsey5 Nov 18, 2004 06:49 AM

i was just wondering if anyone knows how to obtain some of the more uncommon millipedes such as the puerto rican whites or the yellow deserts as i live in the uk and the only ones i can find avaliable are the giant african blacks. i have a pair of them already and would like to expand this and add some more but i would like some from a different species. also does anyone know if you would be able to house different species together?
cheers

Try BugsDirect, the addy is on my page (see the link at the end). unfortunately there aren't many UK dealers - the best you can do is just keep checking on them, sometimes the species you want pop up.

Having said that, I've only ever seen the white for sale in the US - and that was a few years back. But you never know!

As for housing together, I recommend only housing similar area species together - for example, my millipedes are all african rainforest species. the yellow deserts are, as the name suggests, a desert species and don't do well at all mixed with africans - it's just too humid for them. Believe me, I've made that mistake and lost them because of it. check out Midwest Marvels btw (link on my site), the owner has some good species-specific caresheets there. My website is more generalised.
