Hello, new guy w/question

I wonder if any of you have heard of this millipede I saw in a pet store (cheaper than the others). It was named an Armored Millipede in the store, but it was nowhere to be found online. Not even as armoured. I asumed it was native, and sure enough, I found some simmilar, small, versions of it in my back yard. It is a dark brown with tan spikes on each side of most segments. It's not at all the flat forest ones. This small one has shorter spikes than the big one and is only an inch long, but the one in the store was about 4-5" long. I live in a desert climate in california. Unlike the other 6 the small one came with, he/she is doing very well. I have had him/her for a couple weaks, but the others died right away. I think the walk from the log to the house killed them. It was a dry 106 degrees F day and I had just pulled them out of a soggy log we were getting rid of... shoulda covered them. They are one of two millipedes I find here, but I only found these once, and I find the others in hundreds.

Another question I had was about season. What Season(s) do millipedes seem to flourish? Does it vary?

I’m Ross Davison, BTW. SaberHamster! It's funny how I got that name. Someone seems to be playing a joke on me because I thought it was going to be a failed attempt like my last 2 attempts to create an account here. They were good names too... they were!

Anyways, I want to thank you guys for the information I read in your forums. I hope to be able to use it some time. After losing a couple GBM right when I started this hobby, I decided to read up (heavily) as to how to take care of millipedes before I got any more. I also collected native species from around the yard to experiment on... yeh, it blows that all of the sudden I find out about the ban on imported milis just when I felt I knew enough to soon become an expert. I was just rdy to buy some exotic types like more GBM.
