My millipedes just had babies, I've seen several of them around the tank. Since they have been breeding non stop since I got them I assume there are move in the substrate that aren't ready to come out yet, which poses a problem because my adult millipedes are infested with mites, after trying to get the mites off using a Q-tip and vasolene (I'm careful not to get it on their sides, most of the mites swarm under the millipede's legs when they are handled) then rinsing them in warm water I can't get rid of the mites. There are 2 different types I've seen so far, large red ones and large brown ones. I obviously don't want to get rid of all the mites, but enough so that my millipedes aren't swarming with them. My male gets very upset and as an attempt to groom himself he rubs his head against the rest of his body. Normally I would want to clean the tank after doing this, but I'm afraid of killing the babies underneath. I also don't want the babies I see getting too many mites, so far it looks like none have taken to their bodies. Should I put the babies in another tank?
I just can't seem to find an effective way of getting rid of the mites and I don't want to harm the babies. At my local pet store I saw a thing that is mostly used for reptiles, but it was a "Mite Off" thing and I'm not sure I should use it for my millipedes and the people at the store don't know either. It was like a powder that you apply to them. If anyone has any ideas then please help me out. Thanks!
