If i find a centipede what do i do ?

reptilenick Nov 28, 2005 08:27 PM

Last weekend me and my friend went hiking out in the back country in the high desert in southern california, next to my home. As I normally do I look for creatures, tarantulas, lizards, snakes, etc. This time though found a centipede with an orange head, and a flourecent green body, it was aproxiamently two inches and a half. I wanted to catch it, but I didnt know how to handle it, Any idea what species it was and how to catch one of these things for closer inspection?

p.s im not going to keep it, once in nature always in nature is my motto.

Nick

Description sounds like Scolopendra heros. It's best to leave them alone (do not handle), unless you have a lot of experience with venomous invertebrates. At the most, maybe photograph it next time.
