I'm worried. Is it molting?

PipsyPea Jun 01, 2006 01:45 PM

I got back from holiday about 2 weeks ago (a friend came by while I was away to spray the tank and change food) but since then one of my millipedes hasn't moved anywhere. It's created a little depression slighty under the end of a log and it's stayed in it. It's not been eating or grooming. I know it's not dead (or at least it wasn't yesterday) because I've plodded near it every few days to check. But I've just read in a book I've got that "millipedes often molt in shallow depressions in soil that they cover over; molting may take several days and is a very dangerous time for a millipede". So now I'm feeling guilty for prodding near it if that's what it's doing. It isn't really covered though. Has anyone else had them pretty much stay on the surface when they've molted? And it's been at least 2 weeks, which seems a bit longer than several days. Should I be concerned? I'm a bit worried about her.

That is the way "Legs" has been since I got her also. She just stays curled up under her coconut house but she is huge. I've had her for over a year, but she's gotta be pretty old she's about 10". Oh yeah legs is a giant black millipede. My fire millipede died last week
