I recently got an African Giant, and she is beautiful!
She seems to be very shy though. She has a nice little house made of bark and tends to always hide in there, loosely curled up. She only comes out twice a day to eat, usually very early in the morning and then again late at night, around midnight. Is this about the normal activity level? When she is out she is very active and eats like crazy, I've even seen here drag large pieces of food closer to her 'lair'.
I've never yet picked her up, but I would really like to. I've tried just very lightly touching her and that part of the body will tense up. After I touch her a few times she will half curl up and retreat in full reverse back home. I've seen lots of pictures and videos of people just freely picking them up and the Milli didn't seem to mind at all. Eventually I will need to pick her up to change substrate and possibly clean off excess mites.
Last question is about hydration. I do have a dish with some aquarium rocks in it, but when I fill it, it evaporates too fast to be useful. She gets a rotation of fresh fruit and veggies (she especially likes apple peel and banana) that are moist and the humidity is usually 90% or more. Is this enough water for a large AGM?
Thanks for your help! I really want my Millipede to live a happy life here!
