Ack! Where'd my millipede go?

Geckojira Aug 22, 2007 11:04 PM

A couple of months back, I got myself a full-grown African Black Millipede. I've been keeping him in a natural cage (24x18x24 Exo-Terra) set-up with a mix of Jungle Bed, moistened coconut bark, live plants, and river pebbles at the bottom. He was fine, coming out from his burrow to explore everyday. Seemed healthy and happy.

All that changed about two weeks ago. I removed everything from the cage to change out the river pebbles for clay balls, and set the cage back up with a bit of natural soil, rotting wood/leaves, and some live moss. I saw the millipede exploring that day, but since then, I haven't seen him at all. It's been about two weeks now, and I'm getting worried.

I haven't noticed any horrible smells coming from the cage yet. I also keep a pair of juvenile crested geckos in with him, if that makes a difference. Should I just dig up the cage to find him, or is he probably okay and this is (relatively) normal behavior?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mine gets "Mad" when I handle him, so he hides under the soil. He hasn't even come up for air? Mine usually doesn't hide that far under the soil. I'd go looking for him if I were you and then give him some nice food. Mine loves mango. I always give him something nice after I handle him.
