I don't know anything about insects but I found this really cool one crawling up the side of my house today. I want to keep it until this Tuesday so I can show my Dad (he's coming down from NY). The reason I am posting is because hopefully I can find out enough info to keep this guy/gal alive until my father gets here and then I am going to release it. I've been searching all over trying to identify it so here are some of the main things about the bug. Unfortunately I don't have a picture ( No digital camera.

Found in Winston-Salem, NC.

It has long antennae (~ as long as it's body).

I don't see wings on it but I can't be exactly sure. If there are wings they are definately NOT prominent.

4 front legs and 2 grasshopper-like back legs.

Small eyes & mouth parts.

Body shape: This is difficult to describe but I will try my best. It has an oval body shape that comes to a point near the back legs. Towards the top part of the body (behind the head)- comparable to the location of our shoulders- It looks like there are horns (2- one on each side) pointing out. These are by no means overly scary looking or sharp they just kind of butt out.

The body is dark gray on the top half and light gray w/ tiny spots on the bottom half.

His/her body is probably 2-3 inches. I can get exact measurements if you need them but right now I don't have a ruler close by.

Like I said, I found him/her walking up the vinyl siding of my house. He got really high and I wanted to capture him so I threw a ball up near him (didn't hit him though) so it would knock him loose. As he fell to the ground I watched to see if he'd fly- but he didn't. He wasn't hurt though. He's crawling around the jar quite well.

If anyone can help me in letting me know what kind of temporary housing/feeding would be okay for this little guy/girl until I can release him I would really appreciate it.

Please email me.
