are there a lot of brown recluses in california? i live in the bay area near foresty places. I have found this one creepy crawler in my house that wondered me. About half inch leg to leg. Dark brown No strpies or anything. used a web to help him fall safely, but just like a dragline. And boy, is the one SPEDDY GONZALEZ!! half of its both the front you know chelcirae or wutever n stuff(excuse my unknown abilities of spider features) is shiny almost looking and the bigger part in the back is only a tad darker maybe and lloks soft. Any comments? please help me, this spider scares ME! lol

There are no "brown recluses" in California, meaning no Loxosceles reclusa. HOWEVER, there ARE other kinds of recluses in CA, some of which are just as venomous, or more so. Here is a good page with a rundown of what species are where:
