Just found my first widow in missouri NEED diet and humidity info

phib Mar 28, 2004 12:35 AM

Found her under a rock while herping in a park. She has three red spots on her back and the hour galss on the other side. One other notable trait is her size, her abdomen is about the size of a pea. I need some help on how old she is what she should be feeding on humidity/temp and lighting. I have many venomous herps, but this is my first invert. So any help is appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,

Brian

First, these sites will help you identify WHICH black widow you have:

http://www.hobospider.org

http://www.uvm.edu/~rtbell/Widow.html

And this site has a widow caresheet:

http://www.petbugs.com/caresheets/L-mactans.html

Also, read my above reply for feeding/ water requirements. a small enclosure ( no more than 1 gallon ) with a few twigs for web support is all the setup they need, besides a SECURE lid with many SMALL airholes. Room temperature/ humidity is fine, but you can mist the web lightly once a week for drinking water. And remember, these are not overly aggressive, but keep your distance nonetheless! If you ever would like additional help/ advice, feel free to ask!

Yes Venom's right as for misting the place sometimes all they need is a chunky insect to eat n drink from but misting the web will do just fine
