I think this is an immature or black widow, but I'm not positive. Is it legal to keep these guys as pets? I don't know that I'd want to, but I'm just checking. Thanks-

looks like a brown widow spider..sorry not an expert on true spiders, and i cant remember the scientific name..im sure some1 else will know..
The abdomen looks to ovular to be a widow. I would say it's more likely a Steatoda triangulosa, a non-dangerous relative of the widows. I haven't found much in the way of pictures of S.triangulosa, but this page has one that may be enough to confirm ID:
