At what age or size are black widows dangerous?

brownwidowgirl Jul 16, 2004 05:07 PM

I'm curious to know because I was hosing out my rat cage outside when I felt something crawling on me and looked down to see a young black widow on my foot. this alarmed me quite a bit, and i stomped my foot and she dropped off. I don't think she bit me, but i know that usually their bites go unnoticed for awhile. I already know a lot about widow spiders, so I know what I'm in for if she did get a bite, I just don't know how bad it will be because she was so small (about 1/4 inch body length, 1 inch legspan, only abdomen had markings, rest of the body very black).

well, it turns out the spider did not bite me, although it was still a scary incident.

At 1" legspan, the spider was nearly mature, so it would have been a bad envenomation. Glad to hear you're ok.
