not sure but it may be an anisota or fritillary. You'd have to check species in your area. You can also post it to bugguide.net and ask for help in i.d.

It sounds a lot like a Gulf Fritillary. The pic on the one site you gave me is a little different, but close (the orange and brown seem reversed). The site also mentions PassionFlower vine and that is what it is living on. There are some butterflies around the vine that also look like Gulf Fritillary's. Here's one more pic:
