Rosy Maple Moth Experience

I saw a pink and yellow moth on the side of my house today (hard to miss it's white). It was very bright pink and had a very yellow stripe. I thought it was really cool looking so I put it in a cofee can so I could show my niece. Anyway I looked it up in a book of wildlife in my county and found out it was a Rosy Maple Moth.
I didn't take a picture of it, but I found one on the internet at www.forestryimages.com, although its colors weren't as bright as the one at my house. Anyway, I released it back into the wilds of PA.

They remind me of sherbert! They are actually in the same family as the giant silk moths - but hardly giant! so they do not feed as adults. Apparently they can wreak havoc on maple trees (when caterpillars) since they tend to congregate, but they are native so it's all part of nature's balance. Here's a link to info on the caterpillar so if you ever see one you will know what it turns into
