caterpillar I can't ID

tweedybird Oct 24, 2004 04:57 PM

I found a large, grayish/brown colored caterpillar with light green eye spots on its sides. It's head retracts inside its body. It was found on climbing ivy. Any idea what it might turn into? It's about 3-4 inches long.

any chance of a photo? That is a rather general description. Was it smooth, lumpy, hairy, knobby? Where do you live -this will help, too. In the meantime here are a couple sites for you:
