Collecting meal moths

tigermantis Feb 03, 2005 06:49 AM

I am interested in raising Plodia interpunctella, the Indian Meal Moth, in containers at home. Does anyonme know of a good way to gather these insects? I'd like to use the moths and their larva as food for praying mantids.

I see you posted this a while ago so not sure how you made out. if you have meal, you will probably have moths! You may want to rethink this b/c if they do get loose and they get into your flour etc. you could have a very annoying problem! lol! If you live anywhere near a feed store that carries large amounts of different feed and grain you may be able to get some there.

You might try fruit flies and pinhead crickets for nymphs and larger crix and other insects as they grow. FF and crix are readily available and very easy to keep. www.reptilefood.com is a good source.
