Help with this caterpillar....

DDD^S_SCEPTILE Jul 11, 2005 05:36 PM

These are all over my Uncle's shade tree.. and he wants something done about them... he calls them "Catawble/Catauble Worms". What are they, and what can he do to get rid of them? They total his shade trees.
Thanks in advance. You'll be helping me, alot. I hate trying to help him, because I usually don't find what he wants...

Yes, it is a Catalpa Sphinx. The caterpillars feed on Catalpa trees (thus the name) and I am guessing this is the tree in question. Personally, I am not one to kill native species so I am just giving you a link to the species. If you, or your Unlce want to investigate further I would suggest his local University Extension Service.

If you would collect me some, I'd be very grateful. I'm a sphinx lover and have wanted some catalpa worms for years. I have lots of the trees nearby, but no one here ever gets them around here.

My e-mail is sun_dg63@yahoo.com Please respond.
