breeding luna moths

superstimpy Oct 22, 2006 12:45 PM

I just recently found out that its possible to order luna moth cocoons. I was wondering if it is possible to breed luna moths in a screen cage indoors. I live in california now. I used to live in SC and miss seeing luna moths around. Is there any type of food i can give the catapillars or does it have to be native leaves? I have a bunch of silkworm food

thanks to anyone that answers my probably stupid question.

I found this artificial sweetgum stuff. kind off expensive but pretty cool. but Now I found out that the place won't ship luna cocoons to CA. anybody wanna ship me some? Or I was thinking about deathshead moths so I can be more like my idol Buffalo Bill. will they eat deadly nightshade, belladona, or datura? those are all in the Solanaceae family which the catapillars eat but its kind of a big family. thanks for any help i get.
