pilonm Jun 03, 2007 09:10 AM

Hello,

Here is a little butterfly photographied in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada (near Vermont/Maine) last April 26th.

Is it possible to identify the family/genum/species???

Thank you once again for your precious help!

Hi Michel,

It's a moth, not a butterfly and I believe it is one of the Prominent Moths (Notodontidae) due to the "hump" behind its head but not sure which one (there are so many! These are in the owlet family). Post to bugguide.net for a specific i.d.

It is lovely with all its specs of gold!

Capivaleria grotei...

Thank you very much for your help and comments

Hi Michel,

great you found out I was on the right track and the Notodontidae are part of the Super Family Noctuidae.

Do you collect or just photograph? There are some really lovely moths out there, huh?

Hello Lele,

Thank your for your reply...

Nope, I don't anymore collect the real insects... My collection is virtual with photographies as specimen

When I was young, I collect butterflies, moths, and dragonflies... So doing photographies like these remembers me the old days when I was running in the field chasing them ...

BTW, Noctuidae and Notodontidae are families under the superfamily Noctuoidea... (look in Wikipedia)...

Ciao and Thank you for you kind help! Is it always appreciated

Michel
