This moth picture was taken in Hawaii a couple of years ago by my brother. It landed on the side of my cousin's reptile enclosure. The wing span is approximately 10". I would appreciate any help to identity this! Thanks

I live in NH so we don't have them but there is a moth called the Black Witch that I know can get quite large. I linked below to a search result on bugguide.net. If you click on the thumbnails there you will see the similarity. I suggest uploading your photo (it is free and there are novices as well as professionals who frequent the site and it is quite active) and or inquiring as to which species flies in HI. I hope to see one someday! Good Luck!!

Many thanks for the help. I followed your link and also googled the Black Witch Moth. One one web site, records showed that they occur in Hawaii on all the main islands. A closer look at the image I have here and comparing it to the ones on the web sites make it a Black Witch Moth. This one just appears to have some damage along the back of its wings! Again thanks!!
Glad to help! I know that many of the species of insects, plants and other life on the HI islands have been introduced so I wonder if these were as well and are not indigenous. Must have been a sight to see, regardless!
