Spinner looking for Luna Moth Cocoons

spinner211 Dec 13, 2007 08:41 AM

Hi! l am a hand spinner and fiber artist and am looking for a moth breader who has cocoons that l could experement spinning into different yarns. Many of the North American moth's spin a cocoon that can be spun into a fiber that is similar to silk. lf anyone is inetersted in parting with theior hatched cocoons l'd love to hear from you. ln particular the Luna moth has a very interesting silk fiber cocoon. The cocoon can be spun after the moth has hatched so there is no harm or damage to the worm or moth. Please let me know if you are interested. l'd love to work with you and create some native moth yarns!
Thanks!
-Kim

Hi Kim,

I rear a number of native Saturniid species (polyphemus, luna, cecropia, etc.) and keep most of my cocoons to bring to presentations for kids and adults. If you email me from the link on my name in this post I will put you in touch with some folks who breed on a larger scale than I do and may be able to give more quantity as well as another site, which I don't think I can post here.
