What is this moth doing?

am_photog Jul 17, 2008 09:32 AM

I snapped this picture a few nights ago, it was hard to get the right angle to focus on it. What is it doing? At first I thought it was just getting rid of waste but then I thought maybe it was laying eggs on my window... but I have looked up pictures of moth eggs and they don't really look like these. Any thoughts?

ha! pretty cool shot! yup, it is laying eggs. Moths lay eggs in different places and in different ways. Do a search for how gypsy moth females lay their eggs, they are just masses of them.

yours (not a gypsy moth) is laying in clusters. Many will adhere them to the underside of a leaf, on bark, etc. Yours may have gotten trapped or been attracted to a light and it was simply time to lay.

Btw, if you click on tools and toys in the cornet of message window it will tell you how to post a pic.
