I ran into a strange problem earlier today. I went to feed my #9 mantids, and I found one of them attatched to the top of the lid, and in a pose almost like she was grooming, but she was dead. When I took her out, I realized that her thorax was almost totally rotted and coming apart. Right where her arms connect to her was all brown and decayed almost. Last night, I knew she wasnt well, but she was alive. She did spit up alot of black liquid in the past few days before her death. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this??

I read about it in a careshee, I think Orin wrote it? He had experienced the same problems you just did when keeping this species. They are vulnerable to fungal infections.

Hello,
Yes! The species creobotra needs alot of ventilation and humidity. If not they will get fungii. When ever you notice it, if its on a non lethal place like a raptorial arm, the best bet is to cut it of and crazy glue the open part. (may sound bad but its either that or the mantis dies)

Thanks
