Best humidity level?

Rick1978 Nov 21, 2004 09:02 AM

I am currentely keeping chinese and carolina mantids. However I am unsure of what humdity level I should maintain. RIght now I have moist sphagnum moss in the bottom of each enclosure. I mist once a day and the humidity goes up to 80% after misting. I think that the moss keeps the humidity too high. So I am thinking of taking the moss out and having nothing in the enclosure but misting once a day. What do you guys do? What is the ideal humidity level? It seems that without any moss the humidity level is about 50-55 with no misting. Is that too low? Any advice would help. Thanks.

If the mantids are molting and doing just fine, then don't bother to change anything. The great thing about those 2 species is the fact that they do well in wide variety of temps/humidities. I personally keep most of my mantids at around 70 to 80°F and 60-70% humidity.

I would keep the moss and just spray less frequently.
