** PINK WINGED STICK INSECT - help please?! **

Storm28 Jan 11, 2005 06:30 AM

I am awaiting the arrival of some pink winged stick insects (currently have Indians).

I cant find much info about them though! Are they males and females or do they breed like indians (just females)?? What do I do with the eggs - I know the stick them to thing but I want to be able to choose which I want to keep - how do I take off the eggs safely and how to I store them (do I have to stick them back to something?)?

Will they be ok in with my Indians? I have a really nice big airy stick cage so there's plenty of room. They dont eat ivy though do they?

And whats different about them from Indians (apart from they eat some different stuff etc.) - whats the smell they make? And do they spray anything (I read they did!)? Also, how often do they fly - should I sometimes let them do so or not?

ANY info on these would be great as I cant seem to find much on the internet!!

If you are referring to Sipyloidea sipylus. I believe that they eat bramble & a few other foodplants. They are easy to breed & have good egg production.

For further info, you can do a google search on the species name or contact the Phasmid Study Group.

I've only worked with Extatosoma tiaratum (E.T.'s).

Below is a link to Mark Watson's site which has excellent info:

I have a pair of them at the moment but its my first time with these guys so heres the answers i know:

They do eat bramble for certain, i've not seen mine fly yet but they've only just got their wings. I've not smelt anything odd that i would say is down to them (there are smells in my house but i'm uncertain as to what they are) oh and they reproduce just with females like your indian ones.
