Best mantid books I've found

tigermantis Jan 21, 2005 06:08 PM

Sorry to hog the forum, but I just wanted to share this. The following is a small list of books I've found that cover mantid care.

The Praying Mantids, by Frederick R. Prete, Lawrence E. Hurd, Patrick H. Wells, and Harrington Wells. Expensive, but very comprehensive, great for care and ID info mantids. Worth hunting down at libraries.

Encyclopedia of Terrarium, by Eugene Bruins. Contains a surprising amount of highly detailed mantid information for a general book. Goes into detail on the care of mantids to at least genus. Also covers beetles, tropical roaches and various terrestrial arthropods few books touch on. Lots of info on raising feeder insects as well.

Praying Mantids: Keeping Aliens, by Lasebny and McCmonigle.

Yeah I really want a copy of that Praying Mantids book but I am not about to spend $100 for a new copy. I have been looking for a used copy but no luck so far.

I hear ya. I usually check it out from a local library. If it cost, say, $70 or less, I would consider it. $100 is too much unless you have to have the book for a class or something.

Yep. Library doesn't have it here.

Try Amazon.com. I think they have used copys you can buy. I saw the book by Fredrick Prete listed, and saw it offered.
