Who knew, not to feed two hatching in same enclosure

Jose J. May 28, 2003 03:05 AM

I been trying to get my hatching to feed in a different enclosure than their every day home. Like i do with my snakes. Today I learn they can become very aggresive feeders luck for them they are only 6 inches, or maybe some body would has lost a limb. I will now feed them apart in the future. I am trying to tame them while they are still young. Sometimes they take food from my finger.I only have had them for week. What do you people think about feeding them later Zoo Med Monitor/tegu can food?

You should feed them in their enclosure. Feed them whole foods like crickets and mice. You didn't say what species they were (I'm guessing savs or niles), though this wouldn't change the answer.

First off what species are you working with? Second of all, there are probably better things to feed then canned monitor food, and unless you have deep pockets you would be under feeding them. One more thing, it is not generally dangerous to keep two hatchlings together during feeding time or not. When my monitors hatch I keep the whole clutch together and they all do fine, but that is here and your monitors are not mine so on that note it is also not bad to feed them apart, your choice.
