Hymenopus question

davering Nov 25, 2005 10:04 AM

Hi all, I have a dozen young Hymenopus coronatus nymphs (Orchid mantis) all at roughly the same age, about L5, give or take an 'L' for some of them, one of the nymphs has started to get a greenish tinge of colour over just it's abdomen, nowhere else so far. It happened after its last shed. It's feeding without problems and none of the others have this colour on them, all kept in the same conditions, should I be worried? I've kept this species for a long time but never came across this before. It's not an intense green and you must look at it carefully to see it, but it's there.
Thanks for any info.
Dave

Are you able to post a picture of it? It sounds like it could be normal coloring that will turn brownish in the next few days, or perhaps after its next shed.

Hi deshawn, I tried to take a photo but unfortunately it just will not show the colouration in the picture. The mantis is still feeding and acting the same as all of the others, the green tint is still there, no more intense or less intense than before. I think the main 'teller' will be on the next shed (all being well and it not being something bad), as you say it may darken off into brown, or just disappear totally. I'll keep trying to get a picture that shows the colour and will post it as soon as I can.
Cheers for the reply,
Dave
