catching a mantis?

Hi where is the best place to catch a mantis. I live in W.Va also do they come out all yr round thanks.

Well, I saw three today and caught two. a male and a female.
The male was on some flowers in my front yard, and the female was hanging upside down on the underside of a wooden canopy at a park downtown...
Most of the time, it's just happenstance.
