ROACHES HELP

Parselmouth Jan 27, 2005 09:55 AM

I've done plenty of research on keeping roaches.. but i have one question.. What roach is least likely to thrive in my house if some were to escape. I live in new england where the climate is moderate.. summer temps reaching 80-90 degrees and winter is generally below freezing. My house is about 68 degrees. I would be breeding them mostly for feeders. thanks in advance

None of these species are PESTS and highly unlikely to reproduce in your home. Tropical roaches need a mixture of high heat, plenty of moisture, and food to survive and breed. I have been breeding roaches for a few years and even with some getting loose during cleaning I have never had a problem, and I have more roaches than almost anyone. Look under the Help & Support section for care.
Thx,
James

Lobster roaches (Nauphoeta cinerea) would be a good choice. They will not generally survive cold weather and escapees head for outdoors. They are glass climbers and must be restrained with a band of "Bugstop" or Vaseline around the top of the container. They are VERY prolific breeders!
