B. discoidalis or B. fusca

herp.haven Jul 21, 2005 05:30 PM

If I was to look at a cockroach, what physical attributes would I look for to define whether it is a Blaberus discoidalis or Blaberus fusca? I have had a collection of Blaberus for about thirteen or fourteen years and I am still unsure as to exactly what they are!

Adult fuscas have a dark band that goes horizontally across the middle of their back. Plus, they are much larger than discoids.

B.discoidalis --the nymphs and adult coloration are different than fusca and your picture is pretty clear.

You could tell even by how long you've had them B.discoidalis have been in the US hobby for at least 25 years while B.fusca have been around just under a decade.
