Hormetica subcincta aka Glow Spot Roach ?s

jojobear Nov 11, 2005 04:06 PM

Here is a pic of my newest addition to my roach collection. I got some info from the guy I got them from but wanted any input anybody else has on general husbandry of these cute critter. In particular I read somewhere that there was a big difference between males and females. Does anybody know what that difference is other than one is male and the other is female? Any or comments would be apprecciated.

I believe these are from Venezuela according to what I've read. I would care for them like any other Blaberus sp. I'm not sure, but I believe the males have the two spots on the thorax, but the last segment prior to the anus would definitely define the gender.

Your roach is a male. Females do not have the yellow spots. It doesn't get much easier than that.

Thanks, I kinda assumed that (after posting here) when I went to their container and found one of the nymphs(Started w/11 nymphs & 2 adults) had molted to adulthood and didn't have the spots. Now I can't wait for the babies to start showing up

Do those spots actually glow, or is "glow spot" just a name?
