Can Roaches interbreed? More ?'s too

sacredpurr Aug 15, 2006 03:11 PM

Hello All, I am a new Roach owner, I have Lobster, Orange Head, Orange spotted and soon to be the new owner of some Hissers! I have been reading that some roach species can interbreed together? If this is true please let me know which species can as I want to be extra careful. Also if they get together and they don't interbreed will they kill each other or can they coexist? I am also interested in some really different species. I can't believe I have become interested in Roaches. I thought I would be afraid of them but they all are so cool. Each species is different too which is interesting. I think I may also try the false death head, death head and maybe even some rare species after I am sure I am doing the best I can for the ones I have. So any info on these questions would be great. Thank you!! Deb

Well, I have the B. fusca x B. craniifer--got from blaberus.com. If they are from the same genus, there is a good chance that they can hybridize.

I would not suggest to mix colonies, but you may experiment on your own. Some roaches crave protein more than others, so there may be cannibalization in some cases.

I'm sure others can add their own info, too. I've been breeding 8 different species for the last 6 yrs. as feeders & scientific pets.

As far as info on roaches, I replied to your last post, just click below:

Thanks Lizardman, I didn't plan on mixing species but in case of escape. But I was also wondering about the more rareexotic colorful/cool species as pets. Do you know of any really cool roaches that are really different than the ones I have or mentioned? I appreciate your reponses to my posts. This fourm is kinda slow. Deb
