dermestid beetles

tribbielvr Sep 28, 2006 10:39 PM

I am having a real problem with dermestid beetles in my roach tubs. I think they originally came in with some crickets. I am NOT sure they hurt the beatles but they are driving me crazy, anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with them?
Thanks
Nina

Clean out all of your roach bins of all dead roaches and/or their body parts. The same goes for your cricket bins. Dermestid beetles will lay eggs on anything that is dead as source of food for their bristly larva to feed on.

The hisser tank was the cleanest one with no bodies at all. I will go through the other tubs and see what I can do. We have NO crickets here now at all so that helps.

Do the beetles injure the live roaches or only eat dead things?
Thanks

From what I remember, they eat dead things. They are one of nature's clean-up crews.

Here's a link for some good dermestid beetle info:

I had seen several sites but the one you gave was the best. Thanks! Maybe they are NOT as harmful as it seemed. Maybe I should catch them and SELL THEM! ROFL......it does make me want to test them on a skull or something.
Thanks
