Turkistan roach egg sacks not hatching?

amnestia Apr 11, 2007 03:24 PM

Hey, I have large colony of turkistan roaches that I bought, but it seems that the eggcases that are being laid aren't hatching?

I have them at a temp of 90 degrees, have a bowl of water in there to raise humidity and am misting daily. How do you guys get your egg cases to hatch?(there are around 200-300 eggcases at the bottom of my cage that are unhatched). Are you using a substrate?

Thanks

Well I use no substrate but I do have a separate container, which I hatch out my egg cases. I keep a humidity and temp combo in there. I use vermiculite as a substrate. I get it about 1" thick I then use a spray bottle to mist the substrate once a week. I try to keep it at about 80-90 humidity. Once a weeks I will grab out about 100 egg cases from the main coloney and throw them in there. I keep a few small piece of egg creates in the hatchery, egg cases are hatching out all the time. So once a week I will shake the egg creates out into the main colony or start a new one. Its a little more work but I get a better hatch rate this way.
