hisser mites

i have some hissers with some white mites how do you get red of them? thanks

See my reply on the commensal "hisser" mite below. If they don't LOOK like the mites in the picture, then most likely they are grain mites. You'll have to clean the tank, renew the substrate/cage furniture, etc. Vacuum the room. There are some methods of shaking the roaches in flour (the mites will come off), but I haven't tried it & it may be detrimental to the roaches. You can also use a fine camel hair paint brush & a magnifying glass to brush them off.

To prevent grain mites, you need to: keep the room's or tank's humidity low. I use a small fan in the area to circulate the air. Change out vegs/fruits and chow on a regular basis. Sanitation & excessive moisture is the main prevention of an outbreak.
