Ants coming in my room....

Androidraptor Jul 07, 2007 07:51 PM

A few days ago I was stupid and left some soda cans by my open window. And of course, it attracted ants. I've since removed the soda and anything else they might want, but there are a few coming in still. They don't bother me much, but I am quite worried about them finding my roach tank (which is on the other side of the room). Anyway I can get rid of the ants without spraying poison (AKA bug killer) all over the place? I don't want to spray said poison around because I hate the stuff anyway, plus I don't want it anywhere near my roaches or cockatiel (who I sometimes let out on my bed next to the window), not to mention that I feel the ants shouldn't have to die for being a slight annoyance. I've heard that spreading pepper and cinnamon around drives them away, does it? Need some help...

UPDATE: put some whole cloves around the windowsill (where they were coming in) and around the base of the roach tank. Needless to say, as soon as I dropped the first few cloves on the windowsill, the ants immediately scattered. Where there were once at least 30 of them, there are none now! Though I do need to know if the cloves can hurt my roaches. They seem pretty content now (both are sitting on their house waving their antenna a bit, nothing out of the ordinary) but I have heard things about cloves repelling household roaches as well as ants. If that's true, I definitely don't want my pet roaches to become distressed. Is that possible, and if it is, should I remove the cloves?
