For those of you with pygmy chams >>>

you keep them in an aquarium with a layer of dirt on the ground. How do you insure that each of the chams in the aquarium in eating enough, and how do you know that the bugs arent going under the soil, giving you the illusion they are in fact eating.

hi jason,

when I had my trio they cup fed...well Bart and Makeda did, Kaiya preferred to hunt so I let a few small crix loose and hoped for the best! She would bowl feed as well tho'. I always kept fresh food accessible to any loose crix. I also fed them D. heydei fruit flies. They stcuk around and the chams liked them! I put a pice of fruit on a wood skewer and stuck it in a plant pot so it was up at their level and near their favorite hangouts. Does this help?

Jason,

if they are young and you get them from a good breeder (Kammerflage?) they may already be accustomed to cup feeding. Unless they are older and/or WC, you probably won't have a problem getting them to use a cup. It's easy to set up. Put secure branches around and over the cup so they can easily shoot they will know that is the location they find food. Actually I had 3 cups in their enclosure so they thought they were hunting LOL! but they always seemed to go to the same one. I have some pix of my setup if you want me to email some to you. The FF were a big part of their diet.

I am not sure if John and Morgana cup feed or what success Kristen had and I am sure they will chime in soon.

Who are you getting them from? You have been on the forum long enough and went thru all the losses that Kristen and I suffered so I think you know that they are a bit tricky. I loved my little ones and if/when I get them again they would ONLY be cbb and probably from the Kammers. Again, hope I am helping

Gotcha...I thought that was probably what you meant. As long as you have enough room, a 1.3 would be good...it might be better to go with a 1:2 first unless you have upwards of a 20 gallon long to keep them in. Lele had a 30 gallon, I believe with her three in there.

By the way, I saw after the fact that you tried to get me through the msn messenger...sorry I was away, I guess. I came back and found it later.

Well, I used to sit there and stare...and I'd see them eat. Now, some of mine won't eat while I'm around, so I have to see if I see little tiny poops. Other than that, it's not that easy to make sure they're eating. I never had any luck with the cup feeding...mine wouldn't get close to it, and I was having escapees. I could try it again with the CB Pygmies that I have now...hmmm...

Jason-

My pygmies are WC and they are bowl fed. I use a large oval shaped porcelain bowl that I place the feeders in. The bowl is imbedded down in the soil and there is a few highways (branches) going over the top of the bowl. There are a few pic of my setup on my site if you want to take a look. The occasional feeder will escape out of the bowl, but they will hunt them down. Best of luck!

I did the same. I buried to make the cup as flush with the top of the substrate as I could. It worked well. Check out John's photos. I think seeing someone else's set up is most helpful!
