I have a honeybee hive inside my back fence. They're quite docile, but recently, I've been seeing these robber flies preying on them.
They're fast, wary, and have big eyes, so they see me coming with my camera. Until yesterday. I spotted this one perched on a Xmas tree light wire, and was able to sneak up on him.

I've wanted to get a shot like this for a while!
