Found a weird fly in my room, identify?

Does any one know what this may be?
I currently have it kept in a jar and am afraid to open it as I don't know if it stings etc. I'm in Scotland, UK.

He's about the size of a very large bluebottle, has dark red eyes, with a yellowish nose, and yellowish stripes on his body & wings.
