Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul food

gocatgo Mar 13, 2003 05:56 PM

Last week I bought a couple of small bags of Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul cat food along with a bag of Innova for my four poor starving kitty cats (they think..heehee). Well, they love the canned Innova and the Chicken Soup cat food but won't touch the dry Innova now. So back to the pet store I go this weekend and will get more of the Chicken Soup and since that pet store carries California Natural too, I'll get that to mix with the Chicken Soup cat food. I'll also be mixing in the Innova to get rid of it. The little varmints better eat it at $26 a bag!

I'm wondering if any of you have tried the Chicken Soup cat food and what you think of it - for your cat, that is?

Below is a list of ingredients:

Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul™
Adult Cat Formula
Fresh, Pure, Wholesome Ingredients Adult cats love the taste of Chicken and Salmon...the number ONE and TWO ingredient in our formula.

Chicken, Salmon, chicken meal, whole grain brown rice, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), oatmeal, whole grain white rice, potatoes, cracked pearled barley, millet, turkey, duck, flaxseed, natural chicken flavor, salt, choline chloride, chicory root extract, dl-methionine, potassium chloride, taurine, carrots, peas, apples, dried skim milk, kelp, cranberry powder, rosemary, parsley flake. Vitamins and minerals.

Oh my, I have heard of that food but have never tried it. Sounds like yours adore it. At 26 dollars a bag they had better like it huh??

The $26 is for the Innova that they won't eat now. Chicken Soup is cheaper than that, I believe. I'll let you know the price when I get some more Sat or Sun.

What company makes the Chicken Soup food? Purina, Science Diet, Nutro... Or is it a new company?

Tammy, It's made by Diamond Pet Foods, Meta, Mo., which I understand is an established pet food company as it's been around for awhile. It says in the booklet that I got with it, to feed a 10-15 lb cat, 2/3 to 3/4 cup per day. It doesn't seem like they eat nearly as much to feel them up and they absolutely LOVE it!!

I went to the pet store today and picked up a large bag of it for $19.00 compared to $26. for the same size bag of Innova. Also I got a medium size bag of California Natural (the only size they had) for $15. and a small bag (again the only size they had) of Wynsong which was $10 so will mix those in with the Chicken Soup for a variety of premium foods.

What kind of food do your kitties eat, Tammy? I'm sure they'd love the Chicken Soup if they tried it and you can get sample sizes for $2. per bag (I think 2 1/2 lbs) which would probably last your two cats a week depending on how much they eat. If you try it, I'd be curious to see what you think.

I'm attaching a link to the website and am hoping the link works.

Ruby -- Thanks. I haven't seen the food around here. I'll check again next time I go to PetSmart. I feed them Nutro Natural Choice Senior Dry with a little Science Diet Hairball Senior Dry mixed in. Stanley has a very sensitive stomach and this seems to be the best mix I've found so far. He's doing well on it. Pookey can eat anything. I have to be careful with Stanley. If I see it, I'll pick up a small bag and give it a try. Do they make it for Seniors (Senior Formula)? I keep an eye on Phosphorous, Magnesium, and Protein levels as they age... They'll be 12 yrs old in August.

Tammy, I haven't seen the cat food in Seniors, just Cat Adult and Cat Lite. However that doesn't mean that they don't have it. I've heard that they have a canned Chicken Soup cat food too but my pet store doesn't carry that either. Since the cats love the dry so much, I'm sure that they'd love the canned too.

Wow, Stanley and Pookey are going to be 12 yrs old???? They must lead a very healthy life. Simba is my oldest and he's going to be 6 in April. Samantha will be 5 this year, and Katrina and KatyKatt both will be 4 this year. Unfortunately, Katy is my fattest cat because all she ever does is eat and sleep. She could be a model for the Kliban Cat cartoons...if you're familiar with those. They're big, fat gray tabby cat cartoons. I love Kliban Cats and am posting the web address here for you if you'd like to see them! Anyway you'll usually find her curled up in the 'meat loaf' pose.

What a neat website! I'll have to look for the calendars. I love the Lang American Cat Calendars with Lowell Herrero's artwork in them. I get them every year.

I can't belive the boys will be 12 in August. I adopted them when they were one year old from the SPCA. Where has the time gone? As you can see below, Stanley has issues with getting older.

Hmmmmmmm.....you are getting shafted. I only pay 17.99 in California for the giant bag.

I have been using the new Chicken Soup food for a few weeks now and so far so good...all of them love it. I normally use Innova and they also love that and do quite well on it but I like to rotate foods once in a while in between using Innova.
