boarding or leaving cat home

JaimeMarie Aug 01, 2003 07:23 PM

What do you all do?
My mother boards her cats at a kennel. I leave mine home, and some one comes in and feeds and waters them every other day and scoops the litterboxes.
I think I am going to board them next time we all go on vacation because this year one of the two got mad and peed on the floor.

I'd rather have someone come and stay at my place while I'm gone. Just my opinion

I also would rather leave mine at home and have someone come in. Of course, part of that reason is the cost of having 19 cats and one dog kenneled and part is that most of mine are former ferals or rescues and they are not fond of strangers or being cornered. Mostly though it is because cats hate change and I think they are more comfortable in their own home and if they are there, they know you will be back. At the kennel they don't have a clue about what is going on except they are in a cage and they don't like it.

IF I were to go anywhere, which I don't because I just don't trust anyone to take care of my kids, I would leave them home and have someone come in and care for them. I'd have this person come over several times prior to my trip so the cats would be familiar with them by the time I left. I feel boarding them would cause more stress on them and they might come home with some kind of illness. I'm a worry wart.

I have a cat sitter check on mine daily in my home. They are much more relaxed in their home, with their stuff, and their routines. I know how badly a trip to the vet stresses mine, I can imagine how their being put in a kennel would really stress them out.

Seeing as I started this thread and then never read it OOPS.
I still think I would board. Crash is so grumpy all the time now I can't imagine what she would do if we left her home even with a sitter.
Mom's two cats love going to the kennel. They usually don't want to come home. They place she boards them love them. They take so many pictures and brush them all the time.
Go figure they don't let us brush them at home.
