I don't think I'm going to get my kitten declawed...

PhunkeyPhish Jul 04, 2004 01:38 PM

I just got a kitten and I was planning to get it declawed mainly because I don't want it scratching me! I dont care about my furniture. BUt then I was reading about a larger proportion of declawed cats compared to clawed cats develop behavioral problems and litter box problems. So I've decided to just accept the cat scratches, I've had a 4 foot iguana who would scratch me up pretty by just by walking across my arm. Also, I don't like the thought of just stealing away apart of my cat's body and it not knowing where the hell it went.

ps. the cat and the bird are getting along fairly well. I think the cat is beginning to lose interest in the bird.

Most kittens you can train not to scratch you. Also, keeping it's claws trimmed short will help.

Sounds like things are going well. Just keep working with the kitten and it will learn. They are smart little creatures.

If you regularly clip your cats nails it doesn't hurt as much. I know its much easier said than done! Well for some cats. I have it done every time I go to the vet, but I'm going to start trying it on my own. It make such a differece on skin Good luck!!
