fat cat....

My cat is only 2 years old and pretty big. Hes an indoor cat. Im sure this has been asked a million times. But what is the best food to keep him in shape and healthy??

I feed him "Natural Choice" for adults (which I heard was really good for cats) and 1/4 of a can of "9 Lives" twice a day.

I do not want to feed him Iams or Eukanuba because this company is known for abusing animals they test on.

Thanks!!

There are many foods out there and all of them have someone who swears by them. My advice is to have him checked by a Vet if you think he is overweight and ask the Vet what is the best for him. Lots of them have food for reducing calories. I know Science does. But you want him to get all the nutrients that he needs, he is still young.

I would ask the vet at your next yearly visit. Sometimes the food on the bag gives you directions to over feed, since it's generic for all cats and not individualized. My brother recently switched to Nutro Natural Choice and his cats have lost a lot of weight. But he only feeds them 1/4 a cup of food in the morning and another 1/4 in the evening.
My mother and I also feeds this food and two of the cats are over weight, while three have normal weight for their size.

First of all the 9 lives isn't helping (this is coming from a veterinary technition) it has almost no nutritional value. Second, How much are you feeding him? An adult cat should eat between a 1/3 and a 1/2 cup of food per DAY. It doesn't matter if you want to spilt into two portions, but he really shouldn't be eating any more than that. If he is, then tapper him down gradually. You can actually make him sick if you drop the amount of food he is eating to fast.
