Brand New Kitty Quiz.....(with new rules)

gocatgo Nov 25, 2005 07:45 PM

The following cat statements are all true except one. Can you find the False statement?

1. The bottom two rows of whiskers on a cat can move independently of the top two rolls. Whiskers tell a cat whether the space they are entering is big enough for it.

2. Puss, a tabby from Devon, England is one of the oldest domestic cats on record. He was 36 years old when he died in 1939.

3. Hunting is not instinctive for cats. Kittens born to non-hunting mothers may never learn to hunt.

4. To drink, a cat laps liquid from the underside of its tongue, rather than the top.

5. A falling cat will always right itself in a precise order. First the head will rotate, then the spine will twist and then the rear legs will align, then the cat will arch its back to lessen the impact of the landing.

6. Some cat terms: Ailurophilia, the love of cats. Ailurophobia, the fear of cats. Allogrooming, when a cat grooms another cat. Autogrooming, when a cat grooms itself.

7. Domestic cats can sprint at a fairly fast speed of about 51 miles per hour.

8. The ragdoll breed gets its name from the fact that every time it is picked up, it goes completely limp, like a ragdoll.

9. Scientists have reported that cats' supersensitivity to vibration and sound have enabled them to pick up ground tremors that precede hurricanes and earthquakes.

10. The nose pad of a cat is ridged in a pattern that is unique, just like the fingerprint of a human.

OK ladies, now all you have to do is be the first to to correctly name the one and only false statement in the above statements. And if you are the winner, then it will be your turn to post 9 true and one false statements.

Are you all game? And are you ready, Jaime? Good luck.

I say number 9 is false. I hope I am wrong or I will have to make up 10 other questions. I am just not so sure about them sensing hurricanes.

>>7. Domestic cats can sprint at a fairly fast speed of about 51 miles per hour.

I think this is the wrong answer. I think it's probably closer to 30 miles per hour. My malamute could run start off speed of 26 miles per hour. So I can't imagine a cat going 51.

yeah Jaime, but in #9 it says that there are ground tremors felt with a hurricane which doesn't make sense so I am sticking with my answer. Speaking of #9, we just had an earthquake right before I typed this. The cats were sound asleep before, during, and after it. A lot of good they do at picking up on signals. I then went in my yard and asked two neighbors over the fence if they felt it and they didn't either. It was just me and the USGS that knew there was one.

And we have a winner! Actually two winners. First place is Jaime and second place is Tessa.

This cat fact should read:
"Domestic cats can sprint at a fairly fast speed of about 31 miles per hour."

Good job, Jaime & Tessa. Now it's your turn, Jaime, to make a list of Fact or Fiction statements and see if you can stump us. You can easily find cat facts anywhere on the net. Mine came from my Cat-opoly game.

This one is my opinion.I think hunting is a instinct that is born in most all animals to survive if they have to.I know Babba is always hunting for a place to sleep and always hunting for food.If he don't slow down hes going to be a blimp.LOL

I am going with 7. I don't think a domestic cat can sprint at 51 miles per hour. I know mine can't. I am not even sure that mine can do 1 mile per hour
