Comfort Food....

gocatgo Jan 11, 2006 06:01 PM

Just saw this on Food Network today in a program called Top Five.

What is the number one all time (people) comfort food? I'll have to admit that I was a little surprised. (And I don't agree with their findings.)

Too funny. I was going to say meatloaf and mashed potatos (as a meal) and saw what Tessie and MA posted... of course, you have to have green beans on the plate...

If I have to pick one, I'd say meatloaf.

But you say off the wall...

I was on a cruise in Nov playing a trivia game and they asked what the #1 favorite scent is (candles or whatever) -- most of us said vanilla... The answer was banana. Which prompted me to answer banana bread on your Cat's Let People Chat question.

The winner is.....

TESSIE!!!!

The answer is 'meatloaf'.

My choice, macaroni and cheese, didn't even make the top five. Meatloaf would be about minus 150 on my list.

I agree -- meatloaf is my #1 choice for comfort food (savory not sweet) -- I am making some Monday.

And I will have it with my #2 choice, mashed potatoes. LOL

I rarely make mashed potatoes for just me. The mashed cauliflower is "OK", but only real mashed potatoes will work with meatloaf.

My #2 comfort food is probably a chicken and mushroom rice bake (usually called Chicken Continental).

The other comfort foods in the top 5 list include:

#2: chicken soup
#3: bowl of ice cream
#4: fried chicken

And sorry, but I missed number 5. I was getting ready for a doctor appointment when that program came on.

I thought number one would have to be macaroni and cheese since kids seem to love that so much. To me it compares with meatloaf, -151. I would have to say that my number one comfort food favorite is fried chicken, mashed potatoes/gravy and green beans.

Chicken soup and icecream are #2 and #3? Chicken soup is on the bottom of my soup list... I think of comfort foods and hearty hot foods -- meatloaf, fried chicken, pot roast, etc...
