Here kitty kitty

About a month ago I saw a little balck kitten in my driveway. I went outside and tried to see where it came from. My neighbor said she saw it go into somones yard. So I went into this persons yard and was crawling under pine trees, she came out and I asked if she's seen a kitten. She told me that a black cat had six kittens in her yard. They were milti colored, a black, a white, a black and white, an orange, a all white with a calico mohawk going all the way down her back. She says she leaves food for them sometimes. So I also started leaving out food and trying to say hello when the mom comes around, but she's afraid. So I watch from inside, the mom comes from across the street, then after she finds the food, a kitten comes. Then another. They kindof play with eachother and jump around as they come across my yard. So I am wondering what I can do in this situation to help them.. I do not want to take them to the humane soceity. I've volunteered before, and every cat in there had a respiratory infection, or some other sickness. This is my town, so I'm not saying this about them all. What should I do? Try and catch them and neuter them all, and let them be on their way? It would be nice to find them a home, but I don't want to break up the family.. Has anyone any suggestions?

These kittens are going to be semi feral at this point. You need to trap them and socialize them. Than get them spayed or neutered. If you leave them as a "family" out there you are going to end up with hundreds of feral cats in your neighborhood. If there are four females in the group and all those kittens have six kittens that brings you up to 30 something cats and than those cats have kittens and so on. So your best bet is trap and fix them. Best of luck.

Hi,

Speutering and finding homes for the kittens and mom would be ideal, but may not be realistic. It kind of depends on how old the kittens are and whether or not taming them is an option. I wouldn't worry about breaking up the family as they would all be better off in loving homes.

You can have them speutered and then release them if you or someone else is willing to feed and care for them. I wouldn't wait long to try and trap or catch them, it may take awhile. I have seen 6 month old kittens having babies themselves. It's very sad
